Mooching back to work on that first dreary January day after Christmas (the most wonderful time of the year, as wise old Andy Williams so rightly put it) always fills me with dread. I moan about it so far in advance that I think no matter what marvellous joy could await me in the office on 5th January, I'd still be a miserable git regardless.
This year I put a sock in it for the first time ever and did what all normal Brits do when glum - went online to look for a sunny summer holiday. As usual, everything I fell for cost the equivalent of half a year's salary but then I stumbled across Stephanie Bonnet's splendid blog - From the Poolside - where I eventually found our August-time escape in France. I wrote her a thank you email, decided to start a blog of my own and the rest is here in front of your very eyes.
I've written a guest post on Stephanie's marvellous site about our December overnighter at the boutique-tastic Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington - have a looksy..
