I'm a contradictory soul - I love discovering magical new finds but at the same time I am a classic creature of comfort. When I happen upon somewhere to make my pulse race, I pounce upon it and covet it to the extent that I may as well become a member of staff. The National Theatre, Swan at The Globe, Jam Circus (my local haunt) - and now, Model Market in Lewisham.
People eye me somewhat sceptically when I pair the word Lewisham with "holiday" but I'm serious folks. Last year, Street Feast, hipsters of the street food phenomena, transformed a disused indoor and open-air market in Lewisham town centre into a buzzing, cornocopia of scrumptious food, drink and revellery in the manner of a summer jaunt in a hot clime. We partied by day and into the early hours and now it's returned a few months earlier in the season to ensure there's enough Friday and Saturday eves in our diaries to rack up as many top-rated nights out as darn possible.
You're in for some real gems of culinary fare - delights such as Mother Flipper's burgers, Smokestak's pulled pork and ribs, Mamas Jerk Station chicken, Cheeky Italian's crab mac cheese, Bill or Beak grown-up hot sarnies, Rola Wala's AMAZING Indian treats (my faves), SE Cakery's chocolate brownie heaven, Meringue Girls' eton mess sparkles. Mouth watering yet?....
The atmosphere is pure up-tempo, I defy you not to fall in love with it. You can climb up a level above the rooftops and lay out by the outdoor heaters (hopefully not needed for too much longer) with a cocktail, bop along to the DJ, bring your kiddywinkles and natter with pals under the glitter ball and fairy lights.
This place rocks, I'm be campaigning when it ends in October to find a duvet sponsor so we can keep the party going well into winter.
